Well done to Waveney Warth & Matthew Luxon who decided to try and avoid contributing to the growing problem of increasing waste, by setting themselves a challenge of living for a year without sending anything to landfill.

Follow their experiences recorded in their blog, they have even got an online store where you can purchase all things eco friendly (loving the bamboo toothbrushes!)

Check out their website: http://www.rubbishfree.co.nz/

Inorganic Rubbish Collection in Auckland

February 14th, 2011 by The BookaBin New Zealand Bin Hire Team

The inorganic collections start again for Auckland residents in February and run until June.
As compliant with council policy, there is no collection in the CBD, as the majority of this area is a business/commercial area. The residential properties with this area are mainly apartments, therefore it is not practical for material to be placed on the pavement where there is limited space. With high pedestrian volumes this could impose health and safety issues for the public and the contractors operating the service.

So for those of you outside the CBD here is what can go in….

Large items that can’t be placed in normal wheelie bin collections
Car doors bonnets and boot lids only
Mattresses
Corrugated iron
Electrical appliances including computers
Timber (up to 2 wheelbarrows in volume only)
Metal objects (i.e. fridges and washing machine)
Tyres (up to 5 per household)

What can’t go in…..
Garden rubbish (i.e. trees clippings etc)
Hazardous waste (i.e. paint, solvents, asbestos, chemical waste etc)
Paint and paint tins
Car parts and engine bodies
Building or trade demo waste (i.e. bricks concrete rocks stone wood glass)
Recyclable materials (i.e. plastic, aluminum, glass, paper)
Items that are too heavy or large to be carried by two people.

February 2nd, 2011 by The BookaBin New Zealand Bin Hire Team

No sleep in or lazy day off this year people. Waitangi Day is on Sunday February 6th.

Those of you who were hoping to get into clean up mode this weekend will need to book your bin today (Thursday) so not to be disappointed. If you have left it until now, it’s not toooo late but do try tomorrow as well as Saturday as a drop off date to compare prices.

It is a high demand time, especially with the weather improving, so you may want to get to the beach this weekend and save the big clean up for next weekend – booking your bin ahead of time will secure you a better price as the cheapest stock books out first.

How long can I keep the skip bin?

December 9th, 2010 by The BookaBin New Zealand Bin Hire Team

When you place your bin booking at www.bookabin.co.nz you nominate the dates you need the skip bin for. Most hires last between 3 and 5 days, but you are able to book for up to 28 days if you need a skip bin for a longer period of time. The price that www.bookabin.co.nz  quotes includes keeping the skip bin for the number of days specified as well as the delivery, collection and disposal of the waste (up to 150kg per 1 cubic meter).
If unforeseen circumstances mean that you have not finished with the skip bin on the nominated collection date, you should advise the supplier as early as possible. Provided the skip bin has not been booked out on another job, they can usually be flexible.

November 9th, 2010 by The BookaBin New Zealand Bin Hire Team

Some helpful hints………………….. How much notice do you need to give when ordering a skip Bin?Most suppliers will be able to deliver a skip bin withing 24 hours of ordering, however, we suggest skip bins are booked as far in advance as possible to ensure you are able to get a skip bin that best meets your requirements and price. We also  advise that if you require the bin early in the morning and have contractors or helpers relying on this, then it might be best to get the bin delivered the day before. During the booking process there is an ‘extra delivery’ comments box - you can write any delivery instructions in there and / or once you have completed your order you will receive a confirmation email with all of your suppliers details so you can call them directly to discuss any instructions with them personally. We have a great range of bins available in Auckland, North Shore postcode 0627 - Hillcrest, Northcote, Wairau Valley, Takapuna and Milford.
